Abstract:

Editorial office files of the Arena, a short-lived Irish literary magazine. The bulk of the collection is composed of holograph and typewritten manuscripts that were published in the magazine. Among the notable contributors were Austin Clarke, Anthony Cronin, Edward Dahlberg, Robert Graves, Brian Higgins, Patrick Kavanagh, Thomas Kinsella, Mary Lavin, James Plunkett, Paul Potts, and C. H. Sisson. Includes galley and page proofs for all four issues of the magazine, editorial comments and corrections by contributors; and correspondence concerning subscriptions and advertising.

James Liddy, Liam O'Connor, and Michael Harnett launched the Arena in the spring of 1963. The magazine attempted to present the best prose and poetry of young Irish writers, although its also published works of older and non-Irish writers. The Arena ceased publication in 1965 after four issues.

The records are arranged into the following series:

The files are organized alphabetically within each series.
