Abstract:

Miscellaneous short-lived student newspapers created by or for students from UWM and its predecessor institutions. The collection does not include newsletters; such items may be found in the records of the UWM Office of the Dean of Students (UWM Archival Collection 48).

Campus student organizations, including student newspapers, receive funding for three years. After three years student organizations must seek their own funding. If they are unable to find other sources of funding they may become defunct.

Acquisition Information

Some newspapers were transferred to the Archives by unknown donors prior to 1989. Current newspapers were collected by Archives staff for integration into the collection. The Alonzo Cudworth Post No. 23 donated The Trade Analyst newspaper in September 2016 (2016-016).

Processing Information

Christel Maass processed the collection at the Archives in July 1995. Christel Maass added additional newspapers to the collection in March, August, and September 2016. Christel Maass added a previously cataloged newspaper to the collection in February 2017. Shiraz Bhathena added the UWM Times, UWM Post, UWM Leader, and backup copies of the newspapers to the collection in December 2023. Matthew Cavenaile added new additions of Crazy Shepherd to the collection in July 2024.
