Biography/History

In April 1967, Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Mayor Henry Maier appointed a committee of local citizens to study the need for additional public facilities and developments, various facility proposals and to make recommendations. The committee’s name was the Mayor’s Committee on Facilities for Conventions and Other Activities but it also had a few variations: Mayor’s Committee on Convention and Tourism Facilities, Mayor’s Committee on Convention Facilities, Mayor’s Convention and Tourist Committee, Mayor’s Convention Facilities Committee and Mayor’s Convention Committee. There were also several subcommittees. Two of those subcommittees were called the Documentation of Needs committee and the Technical committee.

Most members appointed were high level officers from Milwaukee businesses or organizations. There were also many subcommittee members along with others who assisted and supported with research and study.
