Biography/History
The Woman’s Literary Club was founded in 1899 by Mrs. Ivan Conklin and incorporated
in 1901 as a member of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs.
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains minutes of club meetings, annual reports, series of bylaws, a
directory to the Milwaukee County Federation of Women’s Clubs, programs and
membership directories, treasurer’s reports, financial papers, member’s
correspondence, a scrapbook of the club’s history compiled for its 75th anniversary,
as well as miscellaneous letters, clippings, photographs, poetry and memorials for
deceased members.
Arrangement of the Materials
Materials are arranged by type and then alphabetically or chronologically where
appropriate. First two boxes are arranged alphabetically by listed subject heading.
Box 3 is arranged chronologically.

This collection was donated to the Local History Collection on January 17, 1986
by Mrs. Jean Carroll. In February 2019 materials were added that appear to be
from an additional donation by Carroll in 1998. Materials were accessioned as
Local History Manuscripts.
