Biography/History

The Native Sons of the Old Sixth Ward (NSOSW) was founded in 1942 by Robert Uihlein, Sr. and Fred Nieser. It was a social club for people born in the Sixth Ward of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before 1900. The requirement was later changed to 1910. The old sixth ward was roughly the area north of Vliet Street and between the Milwaukee River and Seventh Street, now Schlitz Park. They met annually, often times at the Schlitz Brown Bottle. The group is no longer extant.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains records for the NSOSW, including meeting minutes, financial reports, receipts, and correspondence. There is also a photograph from an annual meeting and various obituaries and memorials of past members. Two folders containing correspondence and a scrapbook deal with U.S. corporations moving their operations to foreign countries. There are most likely the work of Aurele Brown (1900-1987), who was the Secretary/Treasurer of the NSOSW.
