Abstract:

The Southeast Wisconsin Regional Library Conference (SEWRLC) was officially created in 1966 to improve libraries and library services in the seven county area of Southeast Wisconsin. This collection includes correspondence, conference materials, meeting minutes, member information and some financial records.

The Southeast Wisconsin Regional Library Conference (SEWRLC) was officially created in 1966. Its mission was to plan and promote the development and improvement of all types of libraries and library services in the seven county area of Southeast Wisconsin. Those counties included were Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha. The organization sponsored an annual spring conference for the purposes of networking and sharing information among its members. Membership was open to librarians, library staff, library trustees and any library supporters. In 1986, the SEWRLC’s executive board made the decision to dissolve the organization after several years of inactivity.

The collection contains mainly correspondence, conference materials, meeting minutes and agendas along with some financial records, officer and member lists. Included are documents regarding SEWRLC’s creation and dissolution 20 years later.

The subjects are arranged alphabetically and then chronologically within each folder.

Acquisition Information

This collection was donated by the Wisconsin Historical Society in the late 1980s. Materials were accessioned as Local History Manuscripts.
