Scope and Contents

The collection consists of three main parts: club organization, newspaper clippings and photographs, and show reports.

The club organization section contains the club’s by-laws and constitution, a list of charter members, minutes taken from a few meetings in 1959 and 1961 and some issues of the club’s newsletter from 1983 and 1984.

The newspaper clippings and photographs pertain to club activities and personalities. Only a few of the clippings and photographs are dated and no photographs list the names of the people on them.

The show reports contain information on pigeon shows organized by the La Crosse Pigeon Fanciers Club, including lists of exhibitors, awards given, number and types of birds shown, rules for the shows and judging sheets used.

Historical Note

The La Crosse Pigeon Fanciers Club was first formed in 1914. It later disbanded but was revived in 1949 and merged with the La Crosse Poultry Association. This merger ended in 1953 when the La Crosse Pigeon Fanciers broke off on their own.

The main objectives of the club are to encourage the breeding and exhibiting of all varieties of pigeons, to promote and encourage more pigeon fanciers and to sponsor annual shows as designated in their by-laws. The La Crosse Pigeon Fanciers Club is an affiliated member of the Wisconsin State Pigeon Association and National Pigeon Association.
