David J. Marcou, a native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, has worked as a writer, journalist, editor and photographer.

This collection consists of drafts and proofs (2001) of the book Spirit of America: Heartland Voices, World Views published by Western Wisconsin Technical College, 2001, co-edited by Marcou and LuAnn Gerber. Many authors contributed to the work including students from Western Wisconsin Technical College. Papers include a copy of the copyright registration form and a copy of a letter from David McCullough.

Biographical Note

David J. Marcou, a native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, graduated from Aquinas High School in 1968. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973 and another Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984. He also received a Master of Arts degree in American Studies from the University of Iowa-Iowa City in 1978. Marcou has worked as a writer, journalist, editor and photographer. He has taught courses on writing and photography at Western Wisconsin Technical College (now Western Technical College) in La Crosse.

LuAnn Gerber, co-editor, was a student in Marcou’s Writing for Publication class.

The Spirit of America: Heartland Voices, World Views is a compilation of writing and photography of students at Western Wisconsin Technical College and other contributors.
