Biography/History

Craig Thomas Luther was born in Stoughton, Wisconsin on January 21, 1970. He attended local schools and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1988. Soon after he enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard and was assigned to the 132nd Military History Detachment (M.H.D.).

The 132nd M.H.D. was ordered into active federal service on December 2, 1990 and deployed to the Middle East later that month. While in Kuwait and Iraq, Luther collected artifacts and archival materials to document the war and the United States Army's role in it. He also conducted oral history interviews with American military personnel and Iraqi prisoners following the war to preserve their thoughts and experiences. Several of the interviews were separated from this collection to the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Oral History Collection.

After returning to Wisconsin in May 1991, Luther completed his college degree and began teaching in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He became very active in several veterans organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion. He continued his interest in collecting military memorabilia, expanding his scope to include subsequent conflicts. He currently teaches social studies in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
