Register and a card index to the correspondence prepared by Gilbert Doane, Kemper's biographer, is in Box 10-11 of the Gilbert Doane Papers (Mss 936).
Kemper's diaries of his first two trips to Wisconsin (November 12, 1837-August 15, 1838) have been published in the Wisconsin Historical Collections (14:394-449) and in the Wisconsin Magazine of History (June, 1925) and are available on microfilm.
