Abstract:
Papers of Robert H. Fleming, a Milwaukee Journal reporter, ABC news broadcaster, and government official, including his tenure as Deputy Press Secretary to President Lyndon Johnson. The collection is mainly comprised of subject files on two topics -- Joseph R. McCarthy and freedom of the press -- and includes research, correspondence, and drafts and printed copies of resulting articles. Of particular interest within the freedom of the press section are files on Fleming’s involvement with the National Association of Broadcasters and the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
