Abstract:
Legislative papers of Clifford Krueger, a former Senate Republican minority leader, 1975-1980, who served in the Wisconsin Legislature from 1946 to 1955 and from 1957 to 1982. Included are general and legislative correspondence, subject files, constituent problem files, and oral history interviews. During his long career in the Senate Krueger was well known for the moderate influence which he brought to the Republican Party because of his Progressive roots and for his advocacy of the interests of the northern part of the state. Unfortunately the collection includes no paper documentation which is earlier than 1968, and only the 1975-1982 period is covered well. Even for this period, the documentation is disappointing on many of the areas for which he is best known. This is compensated for in part by an extensive, separately-catalogued oral history interview. Topics which are well covered in the collection include aging, environmental issues, forestry, mining, the Bethesda Lutheran Home, the Lincoln Hills School, reapportionment, and UW-Medford.
