Abstract:
Films and videos, 1950s-1978, from the Department of Health and Social Services, Office of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) covering three distinct subject areas: car safety, emergency medical services, and disaster planning/preparedness. Included are compilation reels consisting of car safety and EMS public service announcements, two 16 mm films related to the role of EMS technicians and resuscitation techniques, as well as new clips, a disaster training exercise in Ashland, Wisconsin and miscellaneous EMS footage on 1/2-inch open-reel video. Also included are several 16 mm films on disaster planning and preparedness, including a series called Medical Self-Help Training, which focuses on health, sanitation, and first-aid concerns during situations when a physician might not be available; and a discussion guide for the film, The Price of Survival.
