Abstract:
Right to Read program files from the Division for Instructional Services. Files include general correspondence and materials, reports, and budget information. Also included are materials related to the State Advisory Committee. The Right to Read program began in the early 1970s, initiated by former U.S. Commissioner of Education James E. Allen. The program stemmed from literacy survey findings of a number of reading problems and illiteracy among students and young adults.
