Abstract:
Miscellaneous gubernatorial papers of Governor Tommy G. Thompson, 1985-2001. Well documented in this accession is Thompson's membership on the Amtrak board, his involvement with educational organizations such as Achieve Inc. and the National Educational Goals Panel, and his work with the National Governors Association. Five boxes contain applications and hearing materials submitted by greyhound racing promoters. Thompson's 1998 gubernatorial campaign is documented through general files and the records of press secretary Kevin Keane. Education, particularly school choice, funding, and vouchers, is a core aspect of this accession. Also included are records related to corrections, the environment, commerce and economic development, and welfare. Photographs are primarily campaign and publicity images.
