Abstract:
Records of a citizens task force appointed by Governor Warren Knowles in 1967 to study Wisconsin's shared tax system for funding local government. Headed by Curtis Tarr, the task force was frequently referred to as the Tarr Task Force. The papers consist of minutes, statements and materials presented at public hearings around the state, correspondence, clippings, and publications. The files are of uncertain provenance, and they do not appear to be the committee's official records. The portions accessioned as 1982/49 were the files of Pat Anderson, a citizen member. Research reports prepared for the task force are available in the Society Library. Also included are publicity materials issued by the Citizens Committee for Local Government reform in 1969 in order to muster support for the task force's conclusions.
