Proceedings, correspondence, reports, and research materials (mainly 1938-1944) resulting from Wisconsin's participation in the work of the Northern Lakes States Regional Committee, an interstate committee established by the National Resources Planning Board in 1938 to study the problems of the cut-over region of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. The Committee was chaired by M. W. Torkelson of the Wisconsin State Planning Board and was composed of four representatives from each state involved and four from federal departments. It forwarded many records to the National Archives in 1943 at the expiration of the National Resources Planning Board's appropriation, though it continued to work to a final conclusion after that date. The final report on the cutover region was published as a bulletin of the State Planning Board. In addition to reference material for that study, the series includes material on the Rock River Basin, the Eau Pleine Reservoir, flood control on the Milwaukee River, and a full transcription of a public hearing (1931) that considered raising the level of Lake Winnebago.
