Abstract:
Records of a commission created in 1953 to study the feasibility of building a toll highway between Chicago and Minneapolis, and dissolved in 1955 after it reported the project was not feasible. The file includes correspondence, minutes, reports, speeches, studies, applications, surveys, contracts, accounts, budgets, maps, data tables, a scrapbook of newsclippings (available only on microfilm), brochures, copies of articles of incorporation and other laws pertaining to the Commission, and arguments and a decision of the State Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the turnpike project. A set of 31 maps show possible routes for the proposed toll road.
