Abstract:
General administrative correspondence and alphabetically-arranged subject files of the Board. The subject files, which largely document 1953-1981, concern relationships with the department and Kenneth Priebe, the Architects Examining Board, and various professional organizations. There is also information on licensing examinations, continuing education, proposed legislation, allegations of racial discrimination in housing, information and legal documents for a court case concerning the Madison Tenant Union, and approvals of subdivisions and time-share condominiums in Wisconsin, Florida, and other states. The Wisconsin approval files include the documents submitted with the applications. The correspondence, primarily 1919-1933, includes exchanges between early members of the board such as Elmer Grimmer, George L. Sheldon, and Claire L. Wildner about general operations of the board, legislation, and relationships with the Milwaukee Real Estate Board and other professional organizations. General administrative correspondence from licensees and prospective licensees in Wisconsin, Florida, Texas, and other states, which concerns regulatory requirements and for realtors and salesmen, laws regarding land sales and development, has been weeded to remove routine exchanges. Letters from the public, have been similarly weeded to retain a sample of complaints about untrustworthy or fraudulent business practices.
