Records used by the Adjutant General in carrying out his role in managing the Civil War draft in Wisconsin and overseeing the complex system of credits and quotas necessitated by federal and state regulations. The records include census-like lists of men eligible for the draft (for Brown, Buffalo, Dane, Dodge, Door, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Kenosha, Kewaunee, Lafayette, Manitowoc, Marathon, Marquette, Milwaukee, Outagamie, Ozaukee, Pepin, Vernon, Washington, Waukesha, and Waushara counties), lists of men actually enrolled, and lists of men exempted for various reasons, as well as statistical breakdowns of quotas by locality. In some cases, the lists indicated the reasons for exemptions and the names of the individuals who substituted. English
