Abstract:
Research data, mainly collected 1936-1940, of a study of local government finance carried out by the State Planning Board. The results of the study are summarized in the Board's four-volume Bulletin 13 in the SHSW Library. The archival records consist of data on local school district spending and rural tax delinquency in selected northern Wisconsin towns, 1927-1936. The tax delinquency data is arranged alphabetically by county and then by town and legal description, and it compares tax delinquency and land classification over the decade from 1927 to 1936. The counties included are Ashland, Florence, Forest, Jackson, Marinette, Oconto, Price, and Vilas. The school district statistics are arranged alphabetically by county, by town, and by school district, and they compare school district populations, equalized valuation, and local tax levies and aid over the decade 1926-1936. Examples of both report forms are appended to the finding aid. Also included are miscellaneous narrative reports and background papers for the tax delinquency study.
