Wisconsin. Governor: Executive Clemency Correspondence and Reports, 1916-1963

Scope and Content Note

The most recent files include general correspondence from prisoners about the conditions of their incarceration as well as inquiries about the pardon and executive clemency process. For the Gaylord Nelson and John Reynolds administrations, the files include lengthy narrative summaries of individual applications and recommendations prepared by David Adamany, Horace Wilkie, and other pardon counsels. (Generally, only denied pardon applications are included, as approved requests are included with the pardon case files in Series 98).

For occasional prisoners, parts of the prison case file, court documents and evaluations by prisoner officials are also included. For the years 1939 to 1941 the files include summary sheets about the criminal record of each applicant.
