Abstract:
Photographs made by Sherwin Gillett, an itinerant photographer who traveled throughout southwestern Wisconsin from 1910 to 1935. His photographs document businesses, celebrations, small town life, disasters, farms, and tourism locations. The collection documents daily life in Wisconsin during the early twentieth century. In particular, it shows how changes, such as the development of the automobile, affected the built environment.
