Scope and Content Note: Negatives, the majority of which concern a Federal Writers guidebook project documenting Portage, Wisconsin, which was never published, circa 1935. The images document houses, buildings, streets, and a few people including Charles E. Brown, Thomas Fairchild, and Robert M. La Follette Jr.

Physical Description: 769 photographs and 705 negatives 
Scope and Content Note: Photographs made by Harold Hone of Madison, Wisconsin, of cities, towns, and landscapes in Wisconsin, circa 1936-1940. Most of the images in the collection were done in his role as staff photographer for Wisconsin: A Guide to the Badger State, a publication by the WPA's Wisconsin Federal Writers' Project. In addition to downtown views of Madison, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wisconsin Dells, and other major Wisconsin cities, the collection includes images of Vilas Zoo in Madison, the Lake Michigan shoreline, major Wisconsin industries including lumbering and milk production, mass produced housing, and the landscape of Wisconsin.
