Scope and Content Note

The records of the American Association of University Women - Wisconsin Division consists of correspondence, a subject file, and seventeen scrapbooks. The bulk of the material dates from 1952 to 1972.

The general correspondence, 1943-1970, is arranged chronologically by month and reflects the multifarious activities of the American Association of University Women in Wisconsin. The subject file, arranged alphabetically by folder title and chronologically within folders consists of area workshop and state board meeting minutes, committee reports, correspondence, historian's reports, legislative reports, miscellaneous conference reports, officer's reports, newsletters, publications of the Division, Wisconsin Division handbooks, directories, convention and conference programs, and miscellaneous materials which document the growth and influence of the organization over five decades. Also included in the subject file is material relating to Ellen C. Sabin, late president of Milwaukee-Downer College and long prominent in Wisconsin AAUW activities.

Seventeen scrapbooks, 1941-1972, complete the Original Collection. Several of these contain newspaper clippings relating to state and local branch AAUW activities between 1941 and 1972. One volume contains materials specifically relating to the State Art Project of 1955 and eight others outline a special education project in reading entitled “Readers Roundup,” covering the years 1953 to 1967.

Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1965-2013, to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Wisconsin State Division consisting of budget trends, by-laws, plans and policies, meeting minutes, and convention and conference programs. The purpose of the AAUW conventions and conferences is to promote the organization's work in advancing women's equity in education. The AAUW's writings includes directories, handbooks, and newsletters focused on the events held at the conventions and conferences. This addition includes photographs documenting the conventions and conferences as well as a video of the one hundredth birthday celebration of Della Wendt, the Wisconsin State Division's first president and Racine's former regional president.
