Abstract:
Records of the CIO-affiliated council which was formed in 1938. Records consist of meeting minutes, trial committee records, resolutions, correspondence with the membership and other organizations, financial records, attendance records, and newsletters and reports of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) and the Wisconsin State Industrial Union Council. Included are World War II materials from the Milwaukee County Council of Defense, and resolutions condemning Nazism and demanding the start of a second front. The correspondence includes documentation on efforts to promote more housing in Milwaukee County, and a confidential memorandum on differences between the MCIUC and Wisconsin State Industrial Union Council (November 18, 1947), which discussed charges of Communist influence and improper representation of Local 1533 at Fairbanks, Morse and Company. There are some materials on the United Electrical, Radio 8 Machine Workers Local 1111 strike against the Allen-Bradley Company (1938-39) and the United Auto Workers Local 248 strike against the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company (1946).
