Originally, the volumes were created in three segments: 1919-October 1927, October 1927-April 1931, and 1937-1941. Volumes for May 1931-1937 and May 1941-1950 were lacking when the collection was received by the Historical Society. Volumes from 1919-1931 are handwritten originals, while those from 1937-1941 are corrected, typewritten and mimeographed copies of the handwritten originals. Many of the latter were created and filmed in reverse chronological order. The early original registers also contain brief notations with reference to theaters closing or changing hands, mention of cancelled showings or reduced rates, and occasional recordings of censored films. Occasionally contracts with higher numbers were arranged in a sequence preceding contracts with lower numbers. The production number listed in the Reel List was assigned by the production company.
