Neuens Family Papers, 1907-1972

Scope and Content Note

Mike Neuens (1889?–1963) worked at Milwaukee Works as an electrician and manager from around 1910 to his retirement in 1954, but what is documented here is his work as an athlete, coach, and scout. Team photographs show Neuens' role in minor league Milwaukee sports-–mostly Harvester basketball and baseball teams. These team photographs, along with some clippings, attest to the familial dedication to team sports and to the company and the community, as well as Mike Neuens' baseball and basketball coaching career. Other photographs and clippings document Mike's role in the Harvester Works Club, Neuens family members employed by Milwaukee Works, and the careers of other Milwaukee Works employees such as R.E. Bloye and W.C. Brice (both Works superintendents). The collection also contains documents related to the Milwaukee Works production efforts during World War II, documents related to Lambert Neuens' employment through the 1970s, and a small amount of 1920s correspondence from a former Milwaukee Works employee as well as from a fellow Milwaukee-area minor league coach.
