Founded as the National Network in Solidarity with the Nicaraguan People in 1979, Nicaragua Network (NN) is an umbrella organization made up of local and national committees, task forces, and groups throughout the United States. Its purpose is to increase understanding between the peoples of the United States and Nicaragua by providing financial and material aid for Nicaragua; educational speaking tours throughout the U.S.; and special work brigades. In addition to documenting these programs, the collection provides information about activist groups in the U.S. at both the grassroots and national level, and about the political and economic conditions of the average Nicaraguan during the 1980s. Included is correspondence; clippings, both for reference and about Nicaragua Network; meeting minutes, mainly of the Coordinating Committee (CC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC); brigade applications and evaluations; administrative office files; publicity material, both for Nicaragua Network and member/related organizations; procedural manuals and memoranda, especially on publicity and fundraising; reports; typed and handwritten reports/notes on regular telephone calls between the U.S. and Managua offices; and press releases.
There is a restriction on access to and use of this material; see the Administrative/Restriction Information portion of this finding aid for details.
