Abstract:
Family papers for the Cole, Counsell, Spear, and Pickering families of Hustisford, Wisconsin, consisting of correspondence, photographs, and diaries. The family photos and correspondence principally document Alma "Allie" Cole Pickering, the daughter of Susan Spear Cole and her husband, Asa Cole. After moving to North Dakota, Alma Cole wrote a diary of the experience, which is included in the collection. Other materials include the Oconomowoc High School diploma of Alma's sister, Mary Marguerite "Miggie" Cole, and her commencement speech, her Chicago World's Fair diary (1893) describing the buildings and exhibits, an advertising broadside for the Hustisford Cheap Store, operated by John McRae and Rachel Spear McRae, and assorted family photographs.
