Abstract:

Civil War letters of soldiers from several different Wisconsin regiments addressed to friends and relatives describing life at Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin, food, weather and surroundings, discussions of the draft, the Battle of Hatcher Run in early 1865, and miscellaneous family concerns. Also included is a poem, “The Slave's Appeal,” as well as 27 photographs of an unidentified Civil War-era house and monument and portraits.
