Abstract:
Papers of the Minor and related families of Vernon County, Wisconsin and La Crescent, Minnesota. The bulk of the collection concerns Walton E. Minor (1907-1989), a former machinist and, after retirement from that career in 1963, a farmer. The collection includes his account books (1940-1986), a brief autobiography, his diaries (1965-1989), divorce papers, military service records, awards, a book recording Christmas gifts he received in 1973, and records concerning his death. There are also histories of the Minor, Hayden, and Slater families; notebooks recording weddings, birthdays, and deaths; obituaries and funeral books and cards; detailed records concerning Martha Minor's bicycle accident in 1978; account books concerning the building of the Minors' home in 1973 and an appraisal of it and inventory of personal property prepared for auction in 1989; and other family memorabilia. Photographs in the collection are housed in Madison and are mainly portraits and snapshots of members of the Minor family, but also include images of related families, particularly the Ames, Hayden, and Slater families, and a few scattered images of houses and other significant places in the family's history. Other families represented include the Host, Hayter, Jordan, Morton, Olson, Reuter, Shaner, Stucy, and Alley families.
