Abstract:

Files including records of territorial courts of the area of southern Wisconsin formerly in Saint Clair County, Territory of Illinois; Crawford County, Territory of Michigan; and Iowa County, Territory of Wisconsin. Papers include correspondence, inquests, transcripts of testimony, writs, tax lists, applications for licenses, memoranda of accounts, receipts for arms issued in the Blackhawk War, manumissions of slaves, naturalization papers, and other records. Included are papers concerning James D. Doty, Moses M. Strong, Henry C. Dodge, William S. Hamilton, Morgan L. Martin, and Zachary Taylor. Most documents are dated prior to 1848 and only one folder is dated 1859-1868. All materials are also available on microfilm (Iowa Micro Series 19); six items were separately filmed as Iowa Micro Series 4.
