Abstract:
Eighty 35 mm feature films from the Empire Theatre, located on 42nd Street in Manhattan, New York City, from 1912 (as the Eltinge 42nd Street Theatre) until 1998 when it was lifted off its foundation and moved 170 feet westward to form part of the facade of the AMC Empire 25. This collection of films was found in the theater's basement prior to its move/demolition, and the titles are representative of the theater's grindhouse programming of the late 1960s to the mid-1980s. A majority of titles are Kung Fu films, with a few additional genre films ranging from blaxploitation titles to women's prison films.
