Warner Bros. Contract and Legal Files: United Artists Corporation Records, Series 1.7, circa 1923-circa 1967

Scope and Content Note

The agreements contain information on the purchase price of each literary property and the ownership of the literary rights to it. The correspondence usually deals with mundane matters such as methods of payment, but since litigation (or the threat of litigation) often arose, includes documentation on these matters. The contracts are of two types: 1) contracts for literary rights, and 2) long term contracts between Warner Bros. and its stars, directors and technicians, and contracts for 'loan-outs' between studios. Consequently, it is possible, to trace the pay increases for stars, directors, and others over a period of time.
