The Cooperative Project was started in April of 1937 under the auspices of the WPA Administration for the city of New York. It was initiated by Valery John Tereshtenko, a former assistant professor of Cooperation at the Institute of Agricultural Cooperation in Prague, Czechoslovakia. A Cooperative Bibliography was produced under the authority of the Works Progress Administration of the U.S. Government during the years 1937-1942, by some 90 professional workers, including 14 translators. It consists of 24,000 items (information recorded on index cards): alphabetically by author, within country, and cross-indexed by subject. Each item is also abstracted in files in the first 40 boxes of the collection.
