Robert P. Meyer was a Wisconsin native, born in 1924. After serving time in the United
States Military, he returned to Wisconsin and enrolled at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. He completed his bachelors and masters degrees in Physics before perusing
a Ph.D. in Geophysics and Geology. He was a professor of Geosciences at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison from 1956-1996 when he retired. In the early 1950s he was married to
Marion Poller, with whom he had five children. Marion Pollar Meyer also had a Ph.D. She
workied in the University of Wisconisn-Madison Zoology Department. He was the chairman of
the Eastern Section, Seismological Society of America. Robert P. Meyer died of heart failure
in April 19, 1997.
