Born in Russia in 1867

Graduated from University of St. Petersburg in 1892

Worked as a secondary teacher and taught at the University of Dorpat

Came to UW-Madison as professor of Ancient History in 1925

Retired from UW-Madison in 1939 as a professor emeritus

Served as Visiting Professor at Columbia University, 1935-1936

Awarded "Grand Officer of the Decoration for Civil Merit" by King Boris III of Bulgaria in 1936

Worked as lecturer at Oberlin College Graduate School of Theology in 1942

Became scholar-in-residence at Dumbarton Oaks (located in Washington, DC) in 1944

Died on May 30, 1953 in Washington, D.C.
