Athletic Director Records, 1969-1993

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains records from the Office of the Athletic Director. Record series include teams, correspondence, NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), All Americans, personnel, staff meetings, the Athletic Board, camps and clinics and Office subject files office files. Materials documenting the role that the Office of the Athletic Director played in assisting the Philippines develop physical education programs during the early 1970s appear in the subject files. These records include photographs and correspondence. Dannehl's personal material includes talks he gave to teams and others, papers he authored and evidence of further activities. Box 30 Folder 3 includes discussion on treatment of black coaches and players in College Sports.

The Teams series refers to both intercollegiate and intramural teams and includes schedules, rosters and occasionally travel and other information regarding athletic teams. The wrestling team records include evidence of the visit of the West German wrestling team in 1978. Correspondence files are titled by the correspondent of the athletic director: university administration, facilities, staff members, coaches although it is occasionally grouped by subject. The All Americans series refers to individuals selected as All-Americans from UW-Parkside. The Camps and Clinics series includes records from sports camps sponsored by the university. The UW-Parkside Fencing Team series details the history of the team by year with photos, clippings and the narrative of the coach, Loran Hein. The records were donated by Hein.
