McCormick Estates Records, 1841-1969

Scope and Content Note

The Edward A. Fitzpatrick Papers include correspondence, book reviews, articles and speeches, manuscripts of books and articles, notebooks, biographical material, and other items. The correspondence, 1915-1960, is arranged chronologically by month, and consists of both incoming and outgoing mail. It is composed chiefly of communications with editors and publishers, congratulatory letters from persons who read his articles, and greetings on special occasions.

The manuscript material by Dr. Fitzpatrick makes up the bulk of the collection. It consists of articles, book reviews, speeches, drafts for books, reports, contracts, and faculty memoranda. The Contents List that follows gives a detailed description of the arrangement.

As editor of the Catholic School Journal, Dr. Fitzpatrick contributed numerous editorials and articles to this publication. The collection contains several of these written between December 1948 and December 1960. Notes for a series entitled “Definitions and Educational Terminology” are also included with articles from the Catholic School Journal, since they seem to have been published by the Journal.

Notebooks are composed of research and bibliographical notes made by Dr. Fitzpatrick, while the biographical material is concerned with Fitzpatrick's life and career.
