Scope and Content Note

The collection is primarily comprised of correspondence and writings, but includes reprints of articles, reports, notes, drafts, and photographs as well. It contains materials from his personal life, professional and academic work and writings, his time with the military, associations with various organizations, and files on the controversy involving the F.K. Schaefer article that challenged Hartshorne's method of geography.
