Biography/History

Isaiah Bowman was born in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada on December 26, 1878. He was an American geographer, educated at both Harvard and Yale. Bowman was the director of the American Geographical Society from 1915 to 1935. He was also a chief territorial advisor during World War II. His book The New World: Problems in Political Geography, published in 1921, is one of his notable works. Bowman passed away in Baltimore in 1950.
