The first part of an interview with Dore Schary covering the entire span of his career. In this part, Schary discusses his pre-Hollywood career, his work at Columbia as a writer, working as a writer and head of the "B" picture unit at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), his dispute with MGM over "Storm in the West," his work at Vanguard Pictures for David Selznick, working at RKO for Howard Hughes, their dispute over "Battleground," and his eventual return to MGM. The interview was recorded by the University of California, Los Angeles' (UCLA) Television-Radio Division in the Department of Theatre Arts.
