Abstract: Papers of Ludington, a Milwaukee businessman and Republican, who was mayor of that city, 1871-1876, and governor of Wisconsin, 1876-1878. The collection relates only to Ludington's business activities, particularly to his partnership with Daniel Wells, Jr., of Milwaukee and Anthony Van Schaick of Chicago in the lumber industry. Included are many letters from Van Schaick concerning the land investments and lumber production of the Ludington, Wells and Van Schaick Company which operated near Menominee, Michigan. An additional group of papers concerns Ludington's financial responsibilities as executor of the estate of his early mercantile partner in Milwaukee, Harvey Birchard, and as guardian of Birchard's two minor heirs.

Abstract: Records of the John Bohn Mayoral Administration. Bohn
served as Common Council President until Mayor Carl Zeidler resigned in 1942. Bohn
then became Acting Mayor and was later elected mayor in 1944. He remained in office
until 1948. Collection contains correspondence, reports, clippings, and photographs.
There is also a significant amount of material on Milwaukee's "Centurama", which
celebrated Milwaukee's 100th anniversary in 1946.

Abstract: Records of Burrows and Richardson, a Madison, Wisconsin, real estate firm that was established in the early 1850s by James B. Richardson and operated under varying titles and partners--Abraham H. Palmer, Napoleon B. Van Slyke, Timothy Brown, Levi B. Vilas, and Leonard Farwell--until 1868 when it was taken over by George B. Burrows, who continued it until his death. The firm also acted as an investment, loan, and collection agency for other land companies and for individuals, including Charles Doty. The records document the firm's work with similar agencies in the state and its banking operations from the late 1850s to 1863, as well as its real estate transactions.
