Abstract: This collection contains over 73,000 print photographs and negatives of images taken by the Spin-Scan Cloud Camera that flew on the Applications Technology Satellite (ATS) I and III in 1966 and 1967, respectively. The Spin-Scan Camera was the invention of Verner Suomi and Robert Parent. These images are directly associated with the UW-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the SSEC Satellite Data Services (SDS).

Abstract: Records of the Special Committee to Investigate Allegations of Racial Discrimination at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse of 1982-1983 consist of materials relating to the development of the 1983 report "Report on the Investigation of Allegations of Racial Discrimination at UW-L" that responded to these allegations and proposed recommendations for the improvement of race relations on campus. Materials include correspondence between members of the faculty, administration, present and former student population, and on campus organizations, personal testimonies from administration, faculty, and students regarding the issues of racism on campus, meeting minutes for the Minority Affairs committee, the Special Committee to Investigate Allegations of Racial Discrimination at UW-L of 1982-1983, and the Institute for Minority Studies, and reports from the Special Committee to Investigate Allegations of Racial Discrimination at UW-L of 1982-1983, the Dean of Student Affairs, the University Minority Program Discussion Group, and the Office of Education Civil Rights Division Investigation. Also included are newspaper clippings from 1982 and 1983 that document the controversy on campus.

Abstract: Speech and audience questions, October 4, 1972, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison by Benjamin Spock, the well-known pediatrician, author, and anti-war activist during the course of his People's Party Presidential campaign. The tape includes an explanation of the party platform and a defense of his views on family life and child rearing against criticism from feminists in the audience.

Abstract: Papers and photographs documenting several generations of the Spencer and Germond families of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, as well as the Campbell and Pelton families who married into the Spencer family. The collection consists of diaries, correspondence, news clippings, notes, ledgers, photographs, books, and other artifacts. Included are the diaries of Bezaleel Spencer, a pioneering farmer from Byron, Wis., which span the years 1872 to 1900 and are accompanied by a typed transcript of approximately 200 of these diary entries. Also included are personal papers and articles documenting the career of Harry J. Germond, an Oconto, Wis., drugstore owner who moved with his wife, Minnie Spencer, and family to Madison upon being appointed Assistant State Treasurer. In addition, professional records and publications highlight the career of mathematician and physicist Hallett Germond, grandson of Bezaleel Spencer, who was awarded the Medal of Freedom.

Abstract: One hundred five episodes of Sports Album, a television series that presented sports newsreels. The series ran from 1948-1949. Each episode features a package of newsreels, each lasting approximately 5 minutes, showing compilation footage of sports figures and events with narration added. All the films are 16 mm prints in black and white with sound. Most reels contain three five-minute episodes; see the list below for exceptions. Reels AA 566-584 relate to baseball; reels AA 585-593 relate to football; reels AA 594-597 relate to wrestling; reel AA 598 is about horse racing; reel AA 599 is about golf and swimming; reel AA 600 is about boxing; reel AA 601 is about tennis.

Abstract: Area car enthusiasts formed Sports Car Club of La Crosse in 1957. The club sponsors many events including rallies, gymkhanas, icekhanas, and social activities. The organization is still active. Most of the collection consists of materials relating to the club’s events such as gymkhanas, rallies, and results from events. Other materials include articles of incorporation, bylaws, financial reports, membership lists, and minutes. A few materials such as articles of incorporation and bylaws are included from a related organization, the Hiawatha Valley Motorsports Council, Ltd. This group coordinated and unified motorsport activities among car clubs in the upper Midwest.
