Mainly letters received by John F. Seymour while he was president of the Fox-Wisconsin Improvement Co., an organization engaged in promoting improvement of the water route from Green Bay to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Letters from New York investors, including John Rice and Erastus Corning, president of the New York Central Railroad, and from Wisconsin stockholders, including Otto Tank and M. L. Martin, give information on canal construction, grain marketing, and the rivalry between canals and railroads. The collection contains valuable data on eastern investment in Wisconsin internal improvements. English
