Scope and Content Note

This collection consists principally of typewritten addresses prepared and presented by Colonel Hannan as secretary, 1923-1925, and president, 1925-1939, of the Wisconsin State Board of Control. The speeches, practically all of them on subjects connected with the work of the board, were delivered at social workers' conventions, county officers' conferences, departmental board meetings, clubs, commencements, on patriotic occasions, and other gatherings in many parts of Wisconsin, most of them in the early 1930s. There are 36 of these addresses, each of them in a cardboard folder giving the place, and in most cases the date, at which the speech was delivered.

There is also a folder of correspondence, 1934-1942, dealing mainly with Colonel Hammond's services in connection with prison reform movements.
