Scope and Content Note

These papers consist of a number of official documents--birth certificates, citizenship papers, commissions, etc.; a small amount of correspondence, principally of the years 1875-1880; a considerable number of manuscript speeches, poems, and articles on various subjects; and a few legal decisions. There is, in addition, a letter from Ryan's son, Hugh Ryan, dated 1902, regarding his father's papers and giving some biographical information on him. There are some newspapers of the fifties giving accounts of cases in which Judge Ryan was interested and a few pamphlets.
