Scope and Content Note

The Clerk's general record books contain proceedings of annual village meetings and meetings of the Board of Supervisors; reports of receipts and disbursements; financial reports of the Board; register of village and school officers and their terms of office; record of oaths of office and bonds of officials and, in some cases, chattel mortgage records, liquor sellers' bonds; school district maps; and school district statistics. Matters considered include highway district concerns, liquor license applications, school district business, the levy of taxes, and all aspects of village government.

Election records contain lists of eligible voters, names of the inspectors of the election and their oaths, statements of votes (number of votes received by candidates for various offices), and certificates of election stating the winner's name.

Highway records include proceedings from the Board of Supervisors pertaining to the laying out, altering, or vacating of roads, giving the location of the roads, awards of damages to owners of the property, and arrangements made with landowners. Records also show names of the overseers of highways, the boundaries of road districts, and highway tax lists and road warrants.

The Justice Docket records actions taken in civil and criminal cases brought before the Justice of the Peace primarily dealing with grievances, attachments, and other monetary disputes. Entries indicate the names of the plaintiff and defendant, and in some cases that of their attorneys, the complaint entered, dates of various actions and proceedings, court costs, and in some instances, a short summary of the case and verdict given.

Cemetery Association records include minutes of the Board of Trustees, financial records including perpetual care ledgers with entries arranged by block number and giving plot location, and a 1938 map of the cemetery indicating the occupants of each plot.
