Papers of a reporter and associate editor of the Madison, Wisconsin, Capital Times, consisting of scattered correspondence, writings, and subject files. Bylined articles from the Capital Times have been discarded because the paper is available on microfilm. The collection does include some free-lance articles and drafts of articles written as a stringer for the New York Times. Dating chiefly from the late 1960s and early 1970s, these articles deal with state politics and student unrest at the University of Wisconsin. Subject files include documentation of Hunter's well-known Declaration of Independence petition article in 1951 and his interest in the Civil War. Prominent correspondents include William F. Buckley, Jr., Otto Eisenschiml, Hubert H. Humphrey, C. Estes Kefauver, John F. Kennedy, Edward P. Morgan, Max Otto, William Proxmire, Harlow Shapley, and Norman M. Thomas. English
